Here is a good video overview of many of the different shot types. The cameraman does make a small mistake in filming in this video. Don’t ever chop the heads off of your talent literally or figuratively. It’s not good to have the top of their head go off the top frame unless you are panning or it’s a close-up.
Basically don’t focus in one character if it means that another character in frame loses part or all of his head. These tutorials were meant more for a video than a film setting and that is possibly why their heads were allowed off frame. I still think that this video is a very nice introduction to the different shot types however. I think it works much better than just having me tell you the different shots and explain them via text.
