The most important part of Media Production is presentation. Blogging is no exception. I have realized that to be a good blogger, you have to provide organized and relevant information about a topic.
One of the best ways to improve the presentation of your media production is to think like a journalist or a technical writer. I am trying harder to provide my readers with as much relevant information on a topic as I could. The days of me just being able to ramble on about topics are over.
People don’t have the time to listen to someone ramble on about stuff unless the voice of the writing is extremely compelling. I have tried to improve the professionalism of my writing by following what I call the Blogging Inverted Pyramid. I am sure that someone else has probably already coined the term so please forgive me for using the term.
The Blogging Inverted Pyramid
1. First, I state what my blog article is about and I repeat important keywords in the first paragraph of my post. I try to include a small hook or lead that will grab the readers attention.
2. Then, I provide a brief explanation of what my content or news idea is about. This is especially important if your content consists of a video that your reader is unsure of whether or not he or she wants to watch. This is your last chance to persuade the reader to watch your video or continue reading.
3. I try to provide the most relevant news or information on a topic in order of importance.
4. I write a few not-so-witty lines of commentary in a vain attempt to make the reader think I am clever. It never works but you can’t blame me for trying. I personally think that I am very cool. Unfortunately, the rest of the world does not share my appraisal.
5. I write a transition which attempts to persuade the reader to follow a link to a related or interesting post that I have written.
Conclusion:
The Blogging Inverted Pyramid can add clarity and continuity to your blog. Readers will know what to expect and where to find pertinent information and links. Ever since I have approached blogging in a more journalistic manner, I have noticed a lot of improvements in the length of time that people remain on my blog.
A good blog is either: interesting, informative or entertaining. I have realized that I am not up to par on the entertaining end, so I am doing my best to be more informative. I am hoping to create a more resource-oriented blog.
This is my first post on media production and blogging but I do have some film making resources found below that you can check out along with a list of the affiliate programs that I use on the blog to help me make the money. The list is a very basic list so if you are familiar with affiliate programs, I wouldn’t worry about it. However, I am thinking about creating a much broader list soon. If you are looking for the most tried and tested affiliate programs to earn money for you blog then I recommend checking it out.
