The Gum Thief Videos

I ran across the video for The Gum Thief by Douglas Coupland on Youtube. The title is what caught my eye and I was rewarded with an amazing short video based on the novel, The Gum Thief. Here is the video you should check it out.

This video is so amazing that it led me to buy the book. You can purchase the Gum Thief by clicking here And now I will tell you why I bought the Gum Thief. The book is unlike anything I have ever seen before. It is a story written across the backdrop of advertisements. At least that is what I think it is. I’ll have to wait and see. Still the Gum Thief Video is amazing just a film short.

Here is the Gum Thief Video that I promised you. I hope that you get as much of a kick out of it as I did. It has actually inspired a new novel project of mine. I have never seen anything like the Gum Thief and this video definitely takes photo-novels to the next level.

The Gum Thief

The Gum Thief is an epistolary novel written by Douglas Coupland. According to Wikipedia:

An epistolary novel is a novel written as a series of documents. The usual form is letters, although diary entries, newspaper clippings and other documents are sometimes used. Recently, electronic "documents", such as blogs and e-mails have also come into use.

As a professional blogger and graphic designer, I found this intriguing. I usually go to library rather than purchase new books but I had to buy The Gum Thief. It was just too cool. If I hadn’t seen The Gum Thief Video on Youtube, I would never have found this novel and purchased it. So thank you Youtube. Youtube is awesome isn’t it?
